Welcome to the Newcomer Youth Employment Toolkit

We are so thrilled to have you here! As you progress through school, work, and toward your dream goals, you will encounter many new experiences. The Newcomer Youth Employment Toolkit contains valuable information and activities to guide you through the various steps and challenges you may face when seeking employment.

Note for Supporters:

We are here to provide support and help youth, as well as the parents, guardians, and school settlement staff members that support them, feel more confident and informed during this exciting journey. While the toolkit is designed for youth to take in person with a settlement staff member, we’ve also provided the tools needed for self-directed training and review.

What’s Inside the Toolkit?

Workshops

A workshop is the educational aspect of the toolkit where we learn, practice, or develop skills or knowledge related to the topic in each module.

The workshops are the first step in each module and shape the foundation of your learning experience. This is where we provide tips, strategies, information and support. Our workshops are shared as a presentation, where you’ll be guided through a series of topics. The workshops are intended to be engaging, so we encourage you to listen, take notes and ask questions.

Workbooks

A workbook is a document that includes a set of questions, exercises, or problems for you to work on.

Once you complete a workshop, you may find a workbook in the More Downloads section of the page. Workbooks are there for you to get comfortable with what you’ve learned, so keep practicing by filling out the workbooks until you feel confident in your skills!

Please note that not all modules include a workbook.

Handouts

A handout is a document designed to provide additional information or support for the topics in each module.

Once you complete a workshop, you may find handouts in the More Downloads section of the page. Handouts are there for you to download and keep in your files. We cover lots of information throughout the modules, and we certainly don’t expect you to memorize it all! Keep the handouts on you so you can quickly access important information.

Please note that not all modules include a handout.
